Build a Raft
Can you build a small raft that really floats? Let's use science!
Let's get hands-on!
- Find a big bowl or use the sink and fill it with water.
- Gather materials like twigs, leaves, and string. Ask a grown-up for help.
- Try to tie the twigs together with the string to make a small square shape. This is your raft base.
- Put a large leaf on top to be the deck.
- Gently place your raft in the water. Does it float?
- Try putting a small toy or a stone on it. What happens? Talk about why it floats or sinks.
